What's with the name?

Pretty weird name for a blog, I'll admit. Allow me to explain.

The philosophical theory called Occam's Razor “simply states that of any given set of explanations for an event occurring, the simplest one is most likely the correct one.” An example I found on google:

One of the fence posts is broken. Two possible explanations: A) An albino moose, lost on its quest for its squirrel best friend, crashed through the fence in despair, or B) An old nail rusted through.

"B" is more likely.

Makes sense, right? And more often than not it's true.

Yet anyone that knows me well is familiar with my astonishing ability to overthink, overanalyse and worry in almost any situation. If the hot water runs out, the boiler must have an irreversible fault and will explode immediately. If I lose my phone it’s clearly fallen down that tiny drain between the road and pavement and not hidden in my bag. If Dad is late arriving home, he’s obviously wedged between a car and a lorry on the infamously dangerous A1 and not just late

Vaguely neurotic? Maybe. I'm sure for many others like me the simple explanation is rarely your first answer, and you end up exploring a whole host of illogical and unlikely scenarios (for any future employers reading this, it is purely an issue in my personal life, I promise...). Hence the irony in the name: Sophie's Razor.

Believe it or not I am even overanalysing the existence of the blog itself. Am I offloading a bunch of meaningless thoughts, collated from months in an oppressive state of lockdown? Have I suddenly discovered a hidden passion for botany or baking? Am I going to give advice, write reviews, or randomly select a topic of interest and hope it makes for an interesting read? Do I desperately want to clutch at my English degree and put it to good use?

Hopefully not the latter. After agonizing with my partner (or rather me agonizing at him) I figured it’s probably best to shut up and hit the ground running. For the time being, my blog will serve no specific purpose - it is simply a barrage of ideas and opinions and the occasional recipe. My mind needs a second home and why not share some thoughts along the way.
